Sinopsis; En 1943, en plena Segunda Guerra Mundial, Matt Brennan, un piloto norteamericano,
comanda un bombardeo en Europa. Su novia, Jo Holloway, una trabajadora enfermera de la Cruz Roja que
como él sirve en Europa, ve con estupor como a Brennan, tras cumplir su misión número veintiocho
le ordenan volver a los Estados Unidos. Después de la guerra y tras muchos años sin verse,
Matt y Jo vuelven a coincidir en una fiesta organizada por Leland Willis,
un fabricante de aviones a reacción. Jo es su secretaria y Matt, que ahora se gana la vida
como piloto de exhibición, se encuentra en la fiesta gracias a la invitación del Mayor Hinkle,
amigo de Willis. Tras verse, retoman su romance. Aprovechando su valía como piloto, Matt es contratado como piloto
de pruebas de la empresa de Willis. Su cometido será probar un nuevo prototipo de avión construido para el ejército.
Carl Troxell, diseñador del novedoso aeroplano, es el encargado de colaborar con Matt
para descubrir los fallos y aciertos del prototipo.
