Sinopsis:El Cairo, 1949. Lankester Merrin ha abandonado el sacerdocio y malvive como puede gracias a su reputación como arqueólogo. Un coleccionista privado lo contrata para que robe una imagen sagrada de un templo cristiano recién descubierto en África Oriental.
