Un hombre disfrazado de músico toma unas fotografías de un importante científico canadiense cuando se dirige a su laboratorio. Tras ser advertido por la policía, el músico huye y dispara al agente.
Éste es el punto de partida de esta película de intriga con la Guerra Fría y la conspiración comunista como telón de fondo.
Más que entretenido film de cine negro dirigido con buena mano por Lewis Allen. La mujer fatal corre a cargo de la guapa Audrey Totter, mientras que en ambos bandos de la ley se sitúan dos pesos pesados del cine de gánsters, Edward G. Robinson y George Raft
